Graphs are also pretty good for creating a totally misleading impression. The Labour vote in the Rutherglen by-election in Scotland fell by 1,000 compared to the 2019 general election but lots more SNP and Tory voters stayed at home. Which let the papers confect graphs showing a totally bogus 25% swing to Labour from that lower vote.
