Whatever happened to titles?

In an article in today’s Sunday Post about a makeover of the David Livingstone museum, the historian Dr. Kate Simpson of Glasgow Uiversity is reduced to ‘Simpson’ at her second mention like a common criminal. Would giving her a Dr. – even without the full stop – have hurt that much?
    Ironically, the article lacking some common courtesy is about the museum giving more prominence to Mrs. Livingstone, who seems to have been neglected badly by the history books.
