Windows 8.1? Forget it!

A laptop with Windows 8 kept harassing me to get 8.1 for free. So I asked the tech guy what he thinks. “If you don’t have a couple of hours to waste, and another computer to use in the meantime, forget it,” he said. “And if you hate Windows 8, you’ll hate 8.1 even more.” Which decided me. I don’t like Windows 8, and this Lenovo laptop has a display driver which keep crashing due to hardware defects. So I went ahead. Two and a half hours later, I had a laptop which takes 3x longer to get to the desktop than previously. So I’m going for Plan A: give this laptop to some unsuspecting person and buy another with Windows 7 on it – the last decent version of Windows – and a display driver which won’t keep crashing.
