False memory syndrome?

Did the ‘long, hot summer of 1976' leave an indelible mark on those who lived through it? Say, on those who were in their teens or 20s? I asked a couple of correspondents who were ‘there and aware’ if anything had stuck in their minds. No, nothing.
    Which leaves me wondering about the validity of all the ‘memories’ paraded in newspaper articles.
