“Do not use after August 12 1999", it said on the archived eclipse viewer. But quick progress views of last night’s partial solar eclipse went off without after-images after the gaze was averted and the viewer lowered.
We got to see the whole thing from start to finish without clouds getting in the way for once. No doubt global warming will get the blame for that!
It was an event that someone who didn’t know about it could easily have missed. There was no dramatic darkness at the maximum, just a bit of murkiness as if a cloud had got in the way.
