The trade union Scargills are insisting that life as we know it will end if the government bins 91,000 space-filling civil servants. In fact, we could probably get away with binning 182,000 of them if the ones left could be relied on to do a fair day’s work for overpay and fancy pensions. And sod the damage to their unions’ bank accounts.
