Mr. Gorbachyov seems to be getting a good going over now he’s safely dead. Was he a reformer? No, he botched his end of the Cold War and made his empire drop to bits. And he wasn’t a very nice man, even though he smiled for the news media occasionally.
    Still, he put himself in the firing line, no one else did.
