Too far before its time

At the end of his 1975 novel Imperial Earth, Arthur C. Clarke mentions in the Notes section that he felt inclined to patent his black-hole drive for spaceships. But if he’d managed to get a patent, it would have run out in 1992, my expert tells me. So strictly a vanity project. And we still don’t have interplanetary space travel thirty years later.
