The government reckons it has prevented fraudsters from claiming £17 million in child benefit after moving abroad. It hopes to raise that to £350 million over 5 years by putting 200 people on the job instead of the present 15, who are tackling the pilot project.
But is this the way to go about it? Why is the Department of Work & Pensions not using an A.I. system to do mass checks of claims versus passport data?
And £200 million per year is lost due to fraud or child benefit errors right now. So that saving looks very drop in the bucket.
